The Wartrukk also serves another purpose, one that the Wartrak can't match - armored troop transport. The big shootas can be upgraded from the Pile o' Gunz to increase their damage, ending up with a very potent anti-troop assault tank. This combined with its speed makes it excellent for catching and destroying enemy scout units, as well as enemy infantry that are broken and trying to flee from the battlefield.
Even with no upgrades, each of the Trukk's big shootas is about as damaging as a Space Marine heavy bolter, and it's got two of them, not just one. The most obvious initial difference is that while the Wartrak exists mostly to destroy enemy tanks, the Wartrukk excels at taking down enemy infantry units. Takes a little longer to make, has a few more hit points, costs more, and is a heck of a lot faster. The Wartrukk is very similar to the Wartrak in both appearance and name, but fulfills a very different use on the battlefield. It increases the health of your Wartraks from 1850 to 2035. It increases a Wartrak's speed from a respectable 28, to a much better 36, letting you chase down all but the fastest enemy vehicles.Įxtra Vehicle Armor is the Ork Tier 4 upgrade, hence its very high cost. You going to let them just sit there and screw up the paint job? No, you're going to use Attack Ground to fire a bomb right where the squad is and scatter them all to hell, then drive away and come back with a detector unit like a Big Mek. Why, you ask? Say you've got Tau Stealthsuits shooting at your shiny new Trak. Bomb Chukkas can also fire indirectly like artillery, or target the ground rather than an enemy unit. Also, the Bomb Chukka can't target air units, though they can be caught in the blast of a nearby hit. Note that Eldar Fire Dragons are virtually impossible to knock over and will not be affected by the Bomb Chukka or the rockets' knockback. Space Marines with missile launchers, Dark Eldar Scourges with Dark Lances, Ork Tankbustas, Chaos Horrors, Tau Stealthsuits, and Necron Immortals can all be neutralized with this. Wartraks with Chukkas can also be used to counter anti-tank infantry units by throwing them around, as most anti-tank guns have set-up times. A pair of Traks with Bomb Chukkas can keep a squad perpetually knocked over until it's effectively destroyed. Each individual bomb does roughly 70-80 damage to troop units (though virtually none to vehicles) with an area effect of four (same as the rockets), does good knockback and scatter, and halves the target's movement speed for five seconds as well. While it's initially an anti-tank unit, upgrading the Wartrak with the Bomb Chukka turns it into an effective anti-infantry unit as well. It takes 45 seconds to recharge before it can be used again.
Using the Turbo Boost increases the speed by 50% for ten seconds. Naturally, engaging anti-tank vehicles with a vehicle of your own isn't terribly wise, and things like Imperial Guard Sentinels should be avoided and taken down with Tankbustas instead (unless you have a pair of Traks firing on a single Sentinel or some other obvious advantage). The Wartrak doesn't have any particular vulnerabilities, other than those shared by all assault vehicles. Don't want an errant Trak rocket slamming into a nearby Nob and sending him flying across the field, now do we? Beware though, those rockets do friendly fire as well as knockback. If you have a pair of Traks working as a team, firing into a cluster of Jetbikes, you can reduce the entire group to flaming metal shrapnel in less than eight seconds.
The twin rockets do roughly 170 damage per hit, with an area effect of four. The Wartrak is amazingly good at killing Dark Eldar Jetbikes, especially before they've been upgraded and they still only have 400 hit points. Its twin rockets do good damage to all light and medium vehicles, as well as flyers (though its damage to vehicle_high armored units such as Baneblades and Land Raiders is rather lacking).
When it hits the field, its sole purpose is to serve as an anti-vehicle and anti-building unit. It carries no troops, serving only as a light, fast assault vehicle, and cannot decap points (nor can any other Ork vehicles). The Wartrak is the easiest vehicle to build for the Orks, being available at the same time as the Wartrukk and costing less to produce. At the top of each entry you will find the Requisition and Power it costs, the Vehicle Cap it takes up, and the Ork Population required to build it. These are the Wartrak, the Wartrukk, and the Fighta-Bomma. The Orks have access to three fast, light vehicles, including their flyer.
